Nothing Rhymes with Orange

Publisher: Chronicle Books

Review

Adam Rex takes the title’s conventional wisdom and lets it grow into a raucous romp with a surprisingly heartfelt message. By painting hands, feet and faces on photos of fruit, Rex creates a lovable cast of characters, but none as lovable as the titular Orange.

While all the other fruit dance and rhyme their names, Orange feels left out. After all, nothing rhymes with orange. Off on his own, Orange begins to get angry and resent the other fruit. A big fruit party ensues, ending with Apple acknowledging Orange and his uniqueness by creating his own rhyme.

An original take on a familiar concept, with bright, kooky artwork and a fantastically odd use of rhyme.
