A multitude of mice aggravate a grumpy old miller in whose mill they live, but the creatures are actually rather kindly souls. When the miller buys a tabby cat in an attempt to rid himself of his mouse trouble, he treats the animal so badly that he does not have the energy for mouse-catching.
The mice in the mill band together and help the cat build his confidence, eventually rescuing him from the cruel hands of his owner and in the process forming an unlikely but special friendship.
