Let's Play, Cheetah

Publisher: Campbell Books (Macmillan)

In this fun little board book, a cheetah with googly eyes (shake the book and her eyes jiggle up and down) is doing lots of fun activities: building blocks, playing with a train, shaking some rattles to music and doing some lovely drawing. On each opposite page, Cheetah asks readers if they can repeat three relevant words along with her – when she’s playing trains, it’s train, car and truck, and when it’s the music play page, it’s rattle, drum and trumpet. Babies and toddlers can also enjoy sticking their fingers through circular holes in the book and turning the pages that way.

A bright board book for little ones, this one also has enduring appeal as babies become toddlers and start learning words. There are just a few point-and-say words on each spread, but it’s enough to start with and get kids used to seeing and saying objects and their names, even if they can’t read. The googly eyes are a fun extra which lend a play element to the book, too.
