Ian's Walk: A Story about Autism
Publisher: Albert Whitman & Company
Julie is delighted when her mother says she and her big sister can go to the park together to feed the ducks. However, she is less pleased that they must also take little brother Ian. Ian is autistic and experiences the world differently. As they walk, Ian explores the park in his own way. Then Julie inadvertently lets Ian wander off and must work out where he might have gone.
This is a useful book for discussing autism, sibling relationships and responsibility. The book illustrates conflicting emotions of embarrassment, anger and huge affection.
