New details are added to the story, a war has brought hard times on the family, the parents feel that the only choice is to lose the children in the forest. Some things remain the same, the children still find a gingerbread house in the woods and the witch still has plans to eat Hansel.
Lorenzo Mattotti has created dark and mysterious black and white illustrations which perfectly compliment Neil Gaiman's text. The pages of text and picture alternate working together to tell the story.
A beautiful retelling of a classic fairy tale more suited to older readers.
