Servant girl Milla lives on the island of Arcosi where, not so very long ago, dragons and their riders used to fill the skies: sadly, now, they are just stories and sculptures. But when Milla finds four large eggs, she realises it is up to her to keep the eggs and whatever is inside them safe. As the story unfolds, we join Milla in a mission to find out about her own hidden past: who her real parents are and where she’s really from.

This is the first book in a new epic fantasy saga that takes readers on an unusual adventure, dealing with important themes of friendship, belonging, migration and difference, as well as the utter joy of dragons.

The world building and storytelling is impressive, but the very best thing about this book is the descriptions of the very delightful dragons themselves from the moment they hatch. Liz Flanagan’s writing is vivid and full of rich imagery which means the dragons come alive before the reader's eyes; it’s going to be fascinating to see how this series develops.
