Dark Woods

Review

Voake's fast-paced psychological thriller weaves themes and characters from Hoffman's Struwwelpeter tales into a modern American backwoods setting.

Cal, holidaying from England, has been through numerous foster placements, and learnt never to allow himself to become close to anyone. He also carries a memory from his childhood, of the terrifying tailor with blood dripping from his shears in the Struwwelpeter story, which dominates his dreams. Eden, whom he meets on holiday, has her own appalling nightmares.

When they are abducted by a lonely outcast, who wants to use them to bring dreams to life, and their dreams suddenly become reality, they must all face their inner demons in order to move on.
