Beast Quest: Creta the Winged Terror

(5 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 5)

Publisher: Orchard Books

Produced by a team of writers, Beast Quest is an ever-increasing series of short, graphically illustrated novels aimed at early KS2 boys.

Most are 128 large-print pages, but Creta is a ‘bumper edition’, 192 pages with two related stories. Characters are common to all: the hero, Tom, his friend Elenna, his father Taladon, Aduro the magician and his apprentice Marc pitted against Malvel, the evil wizard.

Fast-paced and exciting, the action resembles a computer game, but the narrative is often surprisingly poetic, and traditional elements of magic, myth and legend feature strongly.

Loyalty to friends, and the importance of family support are subtle but significant underlying themes. A valuable resource to engage and encourage readers through and beyond the series.
