April the Red Goldfish

Publisher: Phoenix Yard Books

Though a simple picturebook, with a limited palette of colours, and sketchy, childlike, crayon images, the subject is anything but childlike, with punning references to Shakespeare, philosophy, alcoholism (aquaholic) and suicide.

It is a certainly not typical of most children's picturebooks in the UK, and despite its simplicity, more suited to KS2 readers.
