Ask Amy Green: Summer Secrets

(1 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 5)

Publisher: Walker Books

The second instalment in a series set in Ireland about a 13 year-old girl. Sarah Webb is an established chick-lit author, and transfers her material skilfully to the teenage market, incorporating adolescent problems into an easily read, fast-paced novel with elements of mystery.

As well as the trauma of teenage romance, Amy juggles a number of challenging family issues: a mother with a new partner and two babies, an almost famous journalist aunt scarcely older than Amy herself, an older aunt who volubly disapproves of Amy's family life, and a grandfather rediscovering an old flame.

There's a surprising depth to this book, which also addresses bereavement and mental health issues, and a serious study of individual choice, responsibility and identity.
