Did you know about the bear who joined the army in the war?

If not, you'll be fascinated by Alan Pollock's gorgeous new picture book The Bear Who Went to War, which tells the story of orphaned bear cub Wojtek and features beautiful illustrations from Bryony Thomson.

A group of soldiers fighting in the war adopt Wojtek and hide him in their tents, feeding him with their rations - until he gets too big! But then they're told he cannot travel with them... so they grant him an officer's commission.

The Bear Who Went to War follows Wojtek as he carries armaments in a battle, before finding a home after the war in Edinburgh Zoo.
