We Can! - Make a Difference

Publisher: Otter-Barry Books

What kind of world do children themselves want to live in? Can we come together to make a kinder, better, greener world? The idea behind this picture book is yes, We Can! It’s a very hopeful book and was created with real children, including disabled children, to make sure they felt represented.

It’s a story of 15 children planning an amazing We Can festival, and it’s just full of brilliant suggestions and plans on how to make the world better. Details in Steve Antony’s illustrations are based on the children’s advice and requests, including a wheelchair-user on a swing.

The result is a lovely picture book that is truly inclusive. It would be a great book to read together and talk about in a nursery, reception or Year One class as well as at home, and be an excellent jumping-off point for a discussion on what children reading it think and what their ideas are.

As explained at the back of the book, the writing and illustrating of We Can! involved substantial input from inclusion ambassadors, including children, to check accuracy and ensure authenticity throughout.
