The mysterious tales of the Mabinogi 27/06/22
A fable of human conflict, Tusk Tusk deals with a difficult topic is a wonderfully clear way. The book begins in the distant past where elephants were either black or white. Although these elephants loved all creatures, they hated each other and one day the two groups decide enough is enough and a dreadful war begins.
When all of these elephants have been killed a small few who fled the fighting begin to emerge from hiding. Over time a funny thing has happened… these elephants are neither black nor white.
McKee’s clear, bold style lights up the pages as his background as a cartoonist lends humour and imagination. The ambivalent ending prevents the story from becoming too moralising. This is a beautifully rendered story which may help explore topics such as racism and war.
