Time for Us
Publisher: DK
Jackson is bored. He’s already built an enormous tower with his blocks, had a delicious snack, and practised somersaulting on his bed. What he really wants to do is play with Mama, but she’s working in her office and can’t play just yet.
While Mama goes ‘clickety clack’ on her computer, Jackson tries his hardest to be patient and keep busy, but his imagination can only keep him entertained for so long.
Finally, the computer is turned off and it’s Mama and Jackson time. They set off on a walk, where they discover an array of fruits, flowers and wildlife, from breadfruit and mangoes to hummingbirds and ants. Just 20 minutes later, they arrive back home, with their hearts full of love and their minds swirling with ideas for tomorrow’s adventure.
This delightful story is inspired by the theory that spending just 20 minutes of quality time a day between a caregiver and child benefits their relationship in multiple ways. There’s so much to enjoy when reading this debut picture book, including a collection of interesting botanical facts and the utterly heartwarming bond between Jackson and his mother, which shines through on every page.
Set in Maui, the book is filled with bright, colourful illustrations, transporting you to its tropical location. Perara’s dreamy artwork really helps bring the text to life, as readers soak in the beautiful fruits, plants, and animals on Jackson and Mama’s walk through nature.
A charming picture book that reinforces the importance of spending quality time with loved ones.
