What to Read After... David Walliams 17/02/25
Theodora Hendrix and the Monstrous League of Monsters
Publisher: Walker Books
Zombie George Hendrix and vampire-cat Banjo are startled when, one Halloween, they discover an abandoned human baby in a graveyard. To prevent her from being eaten by hobgoblins, they take her home to the Monstrous League of Monsters. As the monsters’ first rule is to stay hidden from humans, they know the baby should be returned to human care, but they cannot resist keeping her.
She is named Theodora and grows up to be a happy, adventurous child, who adores her unconventional family of werewolves, ghosts and mummies. However, when she is ten years old, the monsters receive a series of sinister letters, threatening to expose their secret. While they discuss what should be done, Theodora, who is determined, fearless and likes to tackle problems head on, takes matters into her own hands, putting herself in grave danger.
This gruesomely funny tale, the first in a series, is illustrated throughout with amusing black-and-white artwork. Not for the squeamish or faint-hearted, this action-packed spooky mystery is full of ghoulish characters and offbeat humour, and is ideal for independent young readers.
