The Toymaker
Publisher: David Fickling Books
Mathias’ life is in danger. He is being pursued by the evil Dr Leiter and his cruel dwarf, for a small, blank piece of paper. Little Katta saves his life and the brigand Koenig carries both children off on a hunt to discover the secret of the paper.
Theirs is no treasure hunt, however. The secret is far more sinister.
A toymaker has made a knife so fine he can cut a heart from a living body and place it in a doll without it missing a beat.Dr Leiter and the Toymaker will kill anyone who threatens to reveal their hideous activities.
There is nothing lighthearted about this chilling and absorbing horror story and no happy ending, either. An impressive debut.
