Rebecca James' second thriller contains many of the features that made her first, Beautiful Malice, so popular: a heroine whose past is a mystery, and who seeks a new identity.

Having been thrown out by his girlfriend, Tim becomes a lodger in Anna's enormous house. He is also employed to be a companion to the agoraphobiac Anna. Set in Sydney, Tom's casual, surf-centric lifestyle is directly contrasted with Anna's quiet conservatism, and her apparently straight-laced lawyer friends.

Touches of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca haunt the novel, mixed with twentieth-century social issues, sex and identity.
