Spooks and Scooters

The Marsh Road Mysteries 3

Publisher: Bloomsbury

Review

In the third of Caldecott's entertaining Marsh Road Mysteries, we again meet Minnie, Piotr and Andrew, plus twins Flora and Sylvie - whose dad is due to treat them to a half-term holiday of a lifetime in Tenerife. At the last moment, he cancels it.

The twins and their friends are determined to discover what has gone wrong, and why he is so depressed. Amid the excitement of unravelling the mystery, Caldecott sympathetically shows us families who are coming to terms with change, twins who are not identical and inseparable, a high-flying mother who is nevertheless finding coping alone difficult, and a father who lapses into depression when faced with the loss of his business and new girlfriend.
