Swapsies

Publisher: Hodder Children’s Books

Fang loves Sock. Sock is yellow, stripy, squeezy and smells like bananas. Philip loves Train. Train is red, shiny, honky and smells like tomatoes. And Simon loves Ball, because Ball is blue, round, bouncy and smells like chocolate chip cookies.

Fortunately, the little ones are very good at sharing their toys, even after Fang loses Ball. There’s always Stick, after all...

This clever and minimal little story about three friends, their favourite toys and what happens when you share is very good indeed. The humour and the simple but sparky language is perfectly pitched at little ones – and adults will smile at funny little one liners such as 'Ball is no longer with us.'

Fiona Roberton’s animals are cute and full of character, and it’s quite refreshing to see a book about cooperating in which no one has a tantrum. Aspirational reading for toddlers and preschoolers, which reminds us that friendship makes us want to share.
