Reggie Rabbit: The Great Carrot Heist
Publisher: Oxford
Reggie Rabbit is obsessed with the idea of becoming a detective like his hero, Detective Fox. Yet no-one will take him seriously because he’s just a kid – and there’s very little crime in the village of Little Critter. Not like the mean streets of Bearburgh City.
But when huge cargoes of carrots start to go missing from the city docks, it means that Reggie’s family – and everyone in Little Critter – will struggle to be able to afford food. In fact, the only people who now have carrots for sale are the distinctly mafioso-style Masque family of raccoons, who are selling carrots at vastly inflated prices.
Reggie Rabbit and his new friend Pipsquark the bird decide to investigate the mystery of the missing carrots and begin by asking Reggie’s hero, Detective Fox, for help. Detective Fox isn’t interested in Reggie’s theory about mysterious flying carrots – but the mysterious Drucilla Doe is. Can Reggie and Pipsquark solve the mystery, or will the Great Carrot Heist remain a dark stain on the history of Bearburgh City?
This enjoyable whodunnit heist story is full of fun characters and uses a mixture of illustrated chapters and cartoon-style pages to keep the reader’s interest. Readers will be rooting for Reggie and Pipsquark, and there’s a lot to notice in the detail-packed pages.
