Pet Selector! A Hilarious Guide to all the Usual and Unusual Household Pets
Publisher: Words & Pictures Press
Animal lover Russell Kane – who is also a comedian for grown-ups in his spare time – has had many pets: pugs, garter snakes, a much beloved stick insect called Rambo, and a whole host of cats of different breeds.
In this useful and amusing book, Kane gives prospective pet owners the lowdown on the many different breeds of cats and dogs as well as other pets including reptiles, guinea pigs, hamsters, and more.
So, if you’re looking for a new pet, what pet should you get? This helpful guide, beautifully illustrated by Erica Salcedo, contains double-page spreads with information on 18 cat breeds (including the beloved moggy) and 19 dog breeds (including mixed breed dogs such as cockapoos, labradoodles and mongrels) along with rabbits, budgies, rodents, insects, and reptiles.
The focus of the book is on choosing the right animal for you and your family; there is a bit of information here about buying from the right breeder, and of course rescuing animals from shelters, but it’s not a book about the more technical aspects of pet owning such as grooming, maintaining health, and animal care.
However, Kane is clearly an animal lover and his enthusiasm for pets is clear. This is a lovely, heartwarming and funny book for any animal-loving child, and a useful resource for families deciding on their next pet.
