My Dad Used To Be So Cool

Publisher: Flying Eye Books

The father in this picture book has a box room full of dusty guitars, sleeve tattoos up his arm, and wears a pair of converse trainers.

Unfolding like a detective story, his son sets out to discover if his dad was ever cooler than he seems right now.

After all, the evidence is stacked against him. These days, he drives a trusty people carrier and is usually doing the hovering. "Something must have happened… for him to give it all up."

It turns out this 'something' was having a child - but it was really no hardship at all, judging from the drawings of father and son having a tonne of fun together. Maybe, just maybe, this dad is still pretty cool, after all…

Although the story is a little geared towards the knowing adults, there's a lot here that children will also enjoy.

For a start, the illustrations are fabulous - full of bold colours and brushstrokes that give it all a pulsing, positive energy.
