Last Gate of the Emperor

This compelling tale is set in Addis Prime, a dystopian city which is strictly controlled by the Authority, and home to Yared and his Uncle Moti. As they move house a lot, Yared finds it difficult to make friends, so he throws himself into an augmented reality game called the Hunt for Kaleb’s Obelisk.

Working alongside Besa, his bionic lioness, Yared frequently tops the scoreboard and is determined to play in the next tournament, even if it means skipping school. However, his excitement turns to shock when he realises that the game has become real and he is – literally – fighting for his life.

Accustomed to operating alone, Yared must now learn to trust others and work in partnership with his gaming rival, a girl known as the Ibis. Together, they attempt to defeat the Werari, a band of merciless soldiers who relentlessly pursue them, along with their fearsome mechanical monster, the Bulga. As they embark on an action-packed journey to uncover the truth about an intergalactic war between the Werari and the Axum Empire, Yared makes some startling discoveries about his ancestry.

Combining elements of Ethiopian culture with space-age technology, this fast-paced Afrofuturistic adventure is a thrilling read.
