Frederick

Publisher: Andersen Press

Frederick is a field mouse with a difference. While his family harvests corn, nuts, wheat and straw for winter, he gathers sun rays, colours and words, sometimes to the frustration of his siblings. The five little mice live contentedly in their stone wall hideout until the food runs out and the stories dry up. When they ask Frederick for his supplies, he sends them the golden glow of summer, he reminds them of the vibrant poppies and periwinkles and finally he recites his poem about the seasons. Frederick's unusual harvest warms them right through the cold winter days.

Charming collage illustrations complement this gentle country story which shows that sometimes doing things differently to other people brings unexpected benefits.
