Ivy is a 12-year-old orphan and the maid of an unusual lady. Rude, arrogant and a liar with delusions of grandeur, she is always surprised when her help and advice are received as unwanted meddling.

Abandoned in Paris by her previous employer, Ivy's new mistress gives her the task of delivering a diamond necklace to the granddaughter of an old acquaintance in England. This simple task is dogged by murder, mystery and magic.
