A Cat Called Penguin
Publisher: Scholastic
When a stray kitten turned up on Alfie’s doorstep, his wish that no-one would come forward to claim it comes true and Penguin is now his constant companion. Among other things, the two spend hours adventuring in the overgrown garden of the elderly lady next door, knowing she rarely ventures out. It’s a shock when her relatives move in and they lose their playground but worse than that, the young girl takes a shine to Penguin and seems determined to lure him away from Alfie.
An entertaining story for fluent younger readers which is complemented by pen and ink illustrations and would also be suitable for reading aloud to groups.
