13 Hours
Publisher: Tamarind (Random House)
Twelve-year-old Anni never really questions why her frightened, ill mother won't leave their once grand but now dilapidated house. She makes them live barricaded on the ground floor, with Anni's mum terrified of some unnamed danger.
Then, one day, 13 hours before the prime minister will be driven past the house, mum's worst fears are realised.
In this exciting, page-turning story, we find out the real motives behind the attempt to jeopardise the prime minister's visit - and the astonishing reason why Anni's loving mother has demanded so much of her and kept so much secret.

13 hours is a suspense thriller that captures the reader in moments of hair-raising mystery. Shortlisted for many awards and voted for by secondary school students nationwide: The Bridge Book Award, winner of The RED Book award (2017) and 1st in the Staffordshire Young Teen Fiction. Anjeela (Anni), the main character, is caring and thoughtful yet secretive. The main character is a young girl called Anni, caring and thoughtful yet secretive. Anni looks after her mum. She is what is called a ‘young carer’, as her mother is not able to look after Anni properly after her dad’s death and injury to her mother’s leg. Everyday, after school, Anni rushes home to her mum and does the chores. But one day that is corrupted by a group of people breaking into her house. These people do not know the house is inhabited as it has falle...

I think that Narinda Dhami – the author - did an amazing job on 13 Hours. It really highlights the plight of young carers and what they have to go through. What really struck me in this book is how routine it was to Anni – the twelve year old protagonist. Anni’s mother has agoraphobia, this is when you are terrified of going outside. In Anni’s mother’s case, it stops her from leaving the house, her mum is also paranoid about thieves braking in. Then one day al...

13 hours was an exciting and intense book. I liked it because there was always something fascinating and threatening about to happen. The main character, Anjeela, was my favourite character because she was determined, strong and devoted to helping her mother. Their captures were interesting because they all had strong, unique characteristics that showed throughout the book. I also liked the fact that her mother had a real phobia that people can identify with. The characters were smart, and...

I thought this book was really good , it was based on a real persons life about how hard life can actually get,i would read it non- stop and that the author (Narinder Dhami) spent a lot of time thinking and writing about what teen girls and boys like to read about even thought not everyone will like it there are still a lot of people who do and i am one of them and i hope there is a second one of them and it can be as good as this one.

The book was an enticing thriller with a very big misunderstanding at the dramatic end. The book is about a young girl who looks after her mother who is afraid to leave the house. One night the girl comes home to find something strange has happened.

I haven't read the whole entire book but I am hooked on the book. The book is gripping because it has stuff what you wouldn't see in every book like: How she has her whole day planed. Its scary when she finds out someone is in her dads study. I don't want to spoil it for you but there even a twist at the end

I found my book ‘13 hours’ really enjoyable, exciting and a real page-turner. I rated this book out of 4 out of 5 because it was really enjoyable for me and so compelling that I never wanted to put the book down. I think that thirteen hours is a great book and that you should defiantly read it. I don’t really read books that often. Though I read this book quite speedily and enjoyed it very much and I am a very fussy reader and what I read has to be a perfect book. The book is very alarming and had lots of mixed emotions and makes you feel sad and then the book will then turn you to feel startled. It’s a very unexpected book and the ending will defiantly shock you by what it is and it is...

Horror, drama, shock and suspense... What more can you ask for from this action packed thriller! Anni is a young girl who is the carer of her crippled mum. When strangers break into their home will Anni have to fight for not only her own life, but her mother's as well? I think this was a good book but for impatient readers this book could be slow at times. Young kids would probably enjoy action scenes. I would recommend this to 11-14 year old children as this is quite a complex book at stag...

This is a story about a teenage girl and her mother who are taken hostage in their own home by a group of misunderstood burglars for 13 hours. I think 13 hours is quite a good book because although it has a slow start, it gets much better when you get to the middle and onwards. I would recommend this book to children around 9 - 13 because it has some parts that younger kids might find scary, I would also recommend it to patient readers who don't just put the book down after ten or so pages...

I enjoyed 13 hours because it was filled with cliffhangers and suspense. A 11yr old girl called Anni has to always go to her mother at a certain time or her mum will panic as she has agrophobia. One day she hears noises coming from the attic, she finds out that it is burglars... I would reccomend it to kids aged 11-13 and to people who like short but dramatic books.

When intruders invade, Anni is in for an emotional and betraying, 13 hours. 13 hours is a book about a girl called Anni who has to look after her mum. When intruders break into their home, Anni finds out a shocking truth. I really enjoyed this book because it was very fast-paced and every word gripped me. My only criticism is that there were a few plot holes in the story. I recommend this book to any child/teenager that enjoys intense books with a gripping storyline.

The girl had many choices but which one would she pick? I liked this book because it had action in it and it was very mysterious because the girl was hiding from danger. I would reccomend this book to teenagers or something like 9+ because it could be scary for younger children. I thought it was really good but it could've been more realistic because there were police outside so someone could've run outside. The book is about a girl and her mother trying to escape from a group of burglars....

I really enjoyed the book 13 hours. It's a thriller book with exciting parts that will make you want to read on. 13 hours is about this girl called Annie who's her mums young carrer. Annie comes home one day from schooluntil she hears footsteps upstairs. I think this is a good book because it is really captivating. However this book would only be good if you like thrillers. This book is a page turner, it is very gripping. What would you do if your Mum relied on you? What would you do if you where held at gun point, what would you do? What would you do if your Mum were waiting for you to come home but you came back late? Do you know your Mum, do you really know her? I loved this book but its weakness is that after one problem was solved there was another little problem apart from one main on, I would recommend this book for 10+.

If you like suspense books then this is the book for you! The girl in the book has been put through hard times with her mother as her mobility gets worse and she is very brave, to handle such a hard and confusing time. I thought 13 hours was a really good book as it always made you left on a cliff hanger at the end of each page and gave suspense through the whole of the story. My high light of the story is when Annie comes home from the shops and her Mum was worried she heard foot steps upstairs and that`s when all the suspense starts to build up throughout the book. 13 hours is a tense, fantastic book that's about a girl called Anni who always looks after her mum. Unfortunately I feel it rambles on a bit then it should do but apart from that I really enjoyed the book. I feel it's also needed to be explained in great detail to fully understand it. Have you taken care of someone, someone who's very close to you? Well that the same as the girl in this book. She's brave especially making a trap to a stranger. The most stunning moment in my opinion is when she made a trap to catch the stranger and telling her mum to keep calm.

Do you like suspense books? Have you ever had to look after someone close to you? Well then this is the book for you. This book I really interesting and the suspense is good. The reason why I like this book is because I can picture everything in my head because its really descriptive. The book has great description and detail and in the end I felt like I had met all of the characters and knew them, but it is also really fast moving because of what happens. The style of the book also made me want to never put it down and sad when I finished it. The only thing...

I would recommend this book to elder children because it has a really nice meaning to it that you would understand. I've never enjoyed a book so much, I couldn't put it down when I started. It really made me understand how much young carers do for their family. This book was brilliant!

Hi, im Sophia. You may be interested in reading thirteen hours, it is a good book with a very important message behind it. The author speaks about the important message at the end of the book. I have been reading thirteen hours for about a month now. It’s a very good book. It captured my imagination from the first page. It’s fast moving and you don’t want to put the book down. The teacher showed the class a video about the book I was third in the register and I wanted the book and a few days later our teacher surprised the class with the books. I read the blurb and I was even more interested so I went into the book and read the first few paragraphs of the first page and I loved the book even more. If you are going to read the book you will love it!

When the teacher read out the name of the book I just knew I wanted it. It was an interesting book a lot of mystery in it but fun and creepy too. If you like fun but creepy books this one should be the one for you. I can't give out any more information but just read the blurb thank you.

What happened? Twelve year old Anni has to look after her disabled mother who can no longer walk. Her mothers biggest fear is thieves. Anni always reassures her that there are no thieves in the house as she oftenly believes there are thieves in the house. However... one day when she comes home from school she hears a big bang coming from the attic. This book was amazing. A Mystery book that keeps you guessing, full of plot twists and the perfect thriller for fans of mysteries and page-turners. Things that were completely unexpected happened and there wasn't a dull page. If you like these types of books, 13 hours is a must! Thank you to my librarian for recommending this book to me.
