Books to give to new parents
Guess How Much I Love You is a popular gift for new parents – if you’re looking for something similar to give a friend, Oliver Jeffers’ Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth is a wonderful promise from a new dad to his baby son that he’ll always be there to protect and inspire him.
The Girls (and equally The Boys) by Lauren Ace and Jennie Løvlie tells the story of four girls, or boys, and their enduring friendship from small to grown up.
And Dr Seuss’ classic Oh, The Places You’ll Go (also available in boxed gifty versions) is a wonderful book about the excitement life will bring.
Books on love
Broadening out from the adult and child relationship, the following books celebrate love in families more widely. I Love You Like Yellow by Andrea Beaty and Vashti Harrison is ideal to snuggle up with, as it celebrates how love is in the everyday, yet is to be treasured, and has breathtakingly beautiful illustrations.
Love Grows Everywhere by Barry Timms and Tisha Lee celebrates the power of love in families and in communities. And for humour along with the heartfelt emotion, try I Really Really Love You So by Karl Newson and Duncan Beedie, where Bush Baby tries to find a way to express how they feel.
Books about rabbits
Finally, who doesn’t adore a cute rabbit? Other adorable bunnies can be found in Amanda Wood, Vicky Chu and Bec Winnel’s Goodnight Little Bunny, which features photos of fluffy bunnies with velvety ears in a bedtime story.
Martha Mumford and Laura Hughes’ Hop Little Bunnies gives parents familiar with the nursery playtime rhyme a book of cute bunnies to read it at home.
And for the very young, Mirror Magic: Hello Bunny! by Sharon King-Chai introduces cute animals along with a mirror on every page. Can you spot the animals – and yourself?
