Ever since Angela lost her family in a fire, she has been living in a children's home - but one day, her horrible aunt and mean cousins come to collect her and take her on an unexpected holiday. They have never wanted anything to do with her before now, so Angela is suspicious as to why they have brought her to the beautiful but decrepit mansion in the French countryside.

Soon her mind is on other things, however, as Angela discovers a door behind a mirror, which leads to the tiny bedroom of a dying boy. Can she save him before it is too late?

Angela is a heart-breaking character, driven by loneliness and guilt. She does not believe she deserves a home, or that she truly belongs anywhere. Readers will get caught up in her adventure as she throws all thoughts of herself aside in order to save a boy she barely knows.
