About this book

This collection of sizzling summer sleuthing stories from 13 brilliant middle-grade writers is bound to grab and hold its reader’s attention from the outset.

Each story can be read as a standalone and the different authors offer a rich variety of themes, structures and styles, making this a perfect choice for dipping in and out during the summer holidays.

As with the first project from this collection of authors and editors, The Very Merry Murder Club, this title features mysteries from Abiola Bello, Annabelle Sami, Benjamin Dean, Dominique Valente, E.L. Norry, Elle McNicoll, Maisie Chan, Nizrana Farook, Patrice Lawrence, Roopa Farooki, Serena Patel and Sharna Jackson, as well as an additional story from co-editor Robin Stevens.

As its name suggests, each mystery takes place during the summer or features elements of this season. There is a great range of thrilling plotlines, including a sunflower-stealing thief and a “Berry Juicy Murder”, which will engage its audience.

The fast-paced nature of this short story collection makes it a good choice for readers who may have less appetite for longer novels during the holidays.

About the author

Sharna Jackson is the Artistic Director of Site Gallery, Sheffield and a board member of Sheffield Doc/Fest, Upswing Aerial Arts and New Writing North. She has previously worked as a creative producer with the Tate, BAFTA, The Design Museum, The Royal Collection Trust, Museum of Childhood, V&A, Science Museum, Penguin amongst others. An advocate for diverse representation across children’s media, she is a member of BAFTA’s Children’s and Learning and New Talent committees and the Children’s Media Conference advisory board. High Rise Mystery (Knights Of), is her debut novel, the first in a mould-breaking crime series.

About the author

Benjamin Dean is an author and former celebrity reporter based in London. Although publishing books is high on the list, his biggest achievement to date is breaking the news that Rihanna can't wink – she blinks, in case you were wondering. Benjamin can probably be found tweeting instead of finishing a first draft, and also telling people to call him Ben, because Benjamin is what his mother calls him when he's in trouble.

About the author

Patrice Lawrence was born in Brighton and brought up in an Italian and Trinidadian household. Her first book for young adults, Orangeboy, was shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award and won the Bookseller YA Prize and Waterstone’s Prize for Older Children's Fiction. Indigo Donut, her second book for teenagers, won the Crimefest YA Prize. Both books have been nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Patrice worked for more than 20 years for charities supporting equality and social justice. These themes (along with a serious amount of music) inform her stories. Patrice still lives in Brighton.
