About this book

The Grumpus does not like Christmas. In fact, he doesn’t like most things. Apart from Brussels sprouts. He loves those. One day he has had enough of all the festive jolliness in his town. He and his only friend Stick (a stick) come up with a dastardly plan. And he sets off for the North Pole to stop Christmas once and for all.

Naturally, along the way, there is Danger and Adventure. But there are also Unexpected Turns – and the Grumpus must decide what (and who) he really does like and dislike.

Packed with humour and Alex T. Smith’s trademark beautiful illustrations (in full colour), and with a casually inclusive Black Father Christmas (spoiler alert!), this is a heart-warming festive treat. Alex T. Smith gives a nod to classic characters like The Grinch and Winnie the Pooh, but makes the Grumpus his own, and in doing so he explores the true meaning of Christmas. Younger children will love cuddling up and sharing this story, and older children will also enjoy reading it and spotting details in the illustrations. A fantastic gift book for primary-aged children.
