Rosie is devastated when circumstances separate her from her boyfriend Jack. He’s everything to her – and she to him. So she resolves to find him, whatever it takes. Even if this means running away from home without telling her parents, and travelling alone to Brighton.

For any 16 year old, this would be a formidable mission, and Rosie (who also has Down’s syndrome) is no exception, especially when heavy snow threatens to leave her stranded in London. It’s an epic journey, and one which sees her facing many challenges, as well as making new acquaintances (some more pleasant than others).

Through the first-person narrative, the book introduces a delightful heroine to whom the reader can immediately relate. At 350 pages, it’s a fairly substantial read, but keeps the reader hooked, wondering whether she will indeed be reunited with "her" Jack.

One thing is certain – the strength of the affection between Rosie and Jack (who we know has some brain injury-related anger management issues) is so powerful and convincing, it is almost tangible.

An absorbing read in which the author’s knowledge and research of learning disabilities always ensures an authentic voice.
