Little Fish and Friends
by Lucy Cousins
Interest age: 2 to 3
Published by Walker Books, 2020
About this book
Dive into an underwater adventure with Little Fish as he swims through the sea and introduces readers to his fishy friends.
This book features Lucy Cousins’ distinctive and nostalgic style, with rich colours, bold outlines and her fun, handwritten font. Compared to some other touch-and-feel books, this is a good option for slightly older readers (toddlers and pre-schoolers, for example) due to the text level - it has more words and more of a storyline. The rhyming text makes it really engaging and enjoyable to read too.
The various things to touch feature a range of materials, including different types of textured paper that feel a bit different to what you might find in other tactile books. Plus, the descriptions in the story relate to and match the texture of the shapes to touch, making this a better touch-and-feel experience for little ones with a sight impairment – as well as fun for everyone!
If readers enjoy this, there are plenty of other Little Fish titles to explore. Plus, Lucy’s other well-known series such as Maisy.
