About this book
Blodwen is a sheep – at least, that’s what the actual sheep in this story think. The discerning reader knows that Blodwen is, in fact, a grey wolf wearing an orange, woolly jumper. This witty and charming picture book casts an original spin on the fable of a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Blodwen is popular amongst the flock. She’s tall with sharp, pointy teeth and has taught them many new games, including tag – which, unbeknown to the sheep, is Blodwen’s way of trying (and failing) to catch them for more sinister means. Blodwen is busy working on her special mint sauce recipe. She needs to something to eat it with and knows just the right thing. For this, she tells the sheep to go to sleep early and prepare for a delicious morning surprise. But there’s a twist in this wolf’s tale and it turns out that Blodwen is in for a surprise of her own...
This is a clever tale about mistaken identity, full of offbeat humour and illustrated in a stylish, limited colour palette. Blodwen’s sinister intentions are only ever intimated, which adds to the suspense element, and the twist at the end of the book has an important message about accepting others for all their differences.
