Autumn is Awesome (Stories for your Senses): Stories for Your Senses

About this book
Come on a walk in the woods! Look at the brown and gold leaves, feel the wind, listen to the rain. Then it’s time to drink some warm soup and enjoy the delicious cinnamon smells of an autumn fair.
Written especially for children with learning disabilities by a Special Educational Needs teacher, this book encourages a full sensory experience.
Before you start reading, you’re encouraged to gather various items – some leaves, some water, a stick – and then to use them on the relevant spread. There is an instruction to tell you when to look at your leaves, for instance. This would be fun to do with any child, of course, and although it involves some preparation, the items aren’t out of the ordinary.
The cheerful illustrations vary from a personal perspective – so you are looking at some legs in a wheelchair as if they are yours, for example – to the more usual observer angle. This putting of the reader into the scene adds to the immersive feeling, along with the sensory moments, as do the free audiobook and soundscape, accessible through QR codes.
The whole book has been thoughtfully put together to provide an inclusive, fun experience.
