When we’re out and about, we probably walk past all manner of animal homes without even knowing it. In this charming board book, we explore a beehive, a beaver’s lodge, eagle nest, rabbit warren, termite mound and fox’s earth.
On each double page, there are two to four card flaps that reveal terminology and facts related to the various environments: in a rabbit warren, tunnel-like burrows link a number of cosy chambers where the rabbits sleep. A bald eagle’s nest is called an eyrie, is on average three feet deep and five feet wide, and a bald eagle couple might use the same nest for years, as long as it isn’t destroyed by weather.
This is a lovely little book, perfect for young nature fans at home or at school; bitesize information gives us a sense of the important features of each animal home without being complicated, and Clover Robin’s charming collage-style illustration is clear and cute.
