Charlie Merrick's Misfits in Fouls, Friends and Football

Publisher: Oxford University Press

Charlie Merrick is captain of his football team, North Galaxy - or 'Charlie Merrick's misfits' as they are also known. The misfits aren't doing so well in their league, in fact they're at the bottom. But Charlie has big plans: a new boy in school turns out to be a star goal keeper, and a World Cup contest is accepting entries from all sorts of teams - winners, losers and all teams in between. Charlie's big plans come with a price though, and at some point he'll have to choose between friendship and football glory.

Well-written, and filled with very funny cartoons, Charlie Merrick's Misfits in Fouls Friends and Football is a hugely entertaining read suitable to any child who likes football. Charlie speaks directly to his reader, and the cartoons, comics and little notes scattered throughout make this a continually engaging story (you'll end up turning the book upside down at one point). With some great lessons about friendship, ambition and individual worth, Charlie Merrick's Misfits in Fouls, Friends and Football is a great book for any child to get lost in and learn from.
