Writing tips
Reading poetry aloud
4 January 2010
by Rosemary Gregory
After you've written the first draft of your poem, my advice would be to ask someone else to read it out loud.
This helps you to see the points at which your poem stumbles or where your language sounds forced. It's also a very good way to see whether your poem is funny!
I like to write poetry using everyday, spoken language, and listening to it read aloud can help you check whether you're achieving this.
