#ShareYourShelfie to celebrate the joy of books and the life-changing benefits that reading can bring

Will you share your shelfie to highlight the life-changing benefits that reading can bring to children and families?

The sad truth is that too many children leave primary school without basic reading skills and rarely catch up. Poor exam results lead to a lifetime of unemployment or low-paid jobs - creating cycles of poverty that can last for generations.

#ShareYourShelfie is about celebrating the joy of books and the benefits that reading can bring. Your shelfie moment might be in a library or bookshop; sharing a story at home or with your book group; or enjoying the latest addition to your bookshelf. By sharing your shelfie you can help to highlight the importance of these reading moments. With your support we can continue to help children like David transform their lives.

David's story

David's mum was 18, a single parent and living alone in a poor area on the outskirts of Manchester when he was born. She had always struggled and didn't want the same for David. Book Trust's book packs gave her the confidence to share books with David.

David reading his book 'With money being so tight I just couldn't afford to buy books. Being given free book packs was brilliant. And because Book Trust also provides pamphlets about how to read with your child it helps people who aren't confident readers themselves.

'Now David is ahead of his class in English and plans to go to university. I don't think he'd have been half as far on if he hadn't had the book packs.'
