Oakfield is a town of white and Asian ghettos. The Patriotic Party wants a whites-only England and to this end incites race war. On different sides of the line are the Khans and the Kellys; Liam Kelly finds fulfilment in the Patriotic Party while Tahir Khan believes all whites are racist. When their siblings Rabir and Mike begin dating, it is difficult to find anywhere to meet without meeting hostility from one side or the other. These are serious and thout-provoking themes in a pacily-written and dramatic novel.
