Throughout 2008, Booktrust's many projects for readers of all ages will tie in with the National Year of Reading.

Our specific NYR activity

New Bookstart Book Crawl certificates

In support of the 2008 NYR and the National Library Membership Campaign, Bookstart has produced 10 new Bookstart Book Crawl certificates.

Bookstart Book Crawl is a national library joining incentive. Each time a child visits a library with their parent/carer they receive a sticker. Once they've collected four stickers they will receive a beautiful illustrated certificate.

The new certificates are illustrated by new children's book illustrators who are not yet published or have had their first book published in 2000 or afterwards. They are Gwen Millward, Mini Grey, Mei Matsuoka, Jim Copplestone, Nathan Reed, Rebecca Harry, Petr Horacek, Gordon Hunt, Miriam Latimer and Rob Scotton.

Come along to your local library to start collecting these beautiful Bookstart Book Crawl certificates now! www.bookstart.org.uk

Children’s Book Week

6 – 12 October 2008

The theme of this year’s Children’s Book Week is Rhythm and Rhyme, to link in with the National Year of Reading theme for July. The free teachers’ pack will be sent to all state primary schools and public libraries in England in June, and will be available to download from the website: www.childrensbookweek.org.uk

The pack contains a wealth of ideas and activities for an exciting Book Week, including a new poem by Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen with his top tips on how to create poetry-friendly classrooms and book-loving schools.

To request a free Children’s Book Week poster featuring an illustration by Lydia Monks, please contact education@booktrust.org.uk
