London

Join us to celebrate Children's Book Week with At Home in a Strange Land: exploring children's books in translation, a special launch at the Free Word Centre, featuring an international panel including award-winning translator Sarah Ardizzone and The Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler.Find out more

Green Drops and Moonsquirters: The utterly imaginative world of Lauren Child will be showing at the Discover Centre from Saturday 2 October. Events accompanying the exhibition will include a party to celebrate the 10th birthday of the very first Charlie and Lola book on Sunday 3 October and some I absolutely must do drawing art workshops on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October. The Victoria and Albert Museum will be hosting a major new exhibition exploring the story behind Beatrix Potter's famous children's classic, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Find out more

Artists Jake and Dinos Chapman will be transforming the Whitechapel Gallery with a new commission for children inspired by modern day fairy-tales told in poetry.The commission is available to view until 31 October and will be accompanied by drawing and poetry workshops for children. Find out more

The Little Angel Theatre will be presenting a production of  Fantastic Mr Fox for children of 4 + from 11 September - 7 November including performances for families and schools. Find out more.

South East

Escape To Wonderland: The History of Children's Book Illustration is a new exhibition coming to The Lightbox, Woking, from August 2010 until January 2011. Events during Children's Book Week include pop-up book workshops for children. Find out more.

The new Grayshott Children's Theatre are hosting a production of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant based on the books by David McKee, in Grayshott, Surrey on Saturday 2 October. Find out more.

As part of the Children's Bookshow, a national tour of the best children's writers and illustrators, Daniel Morden will be visiting the Arts Centre, Kings Lynn on Friday 8 October to talk about the new paperback of The Adventures of Odysseus. Find out more.

Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books, are celebrating 70 wonderful years of Puffin Books with a special exhibition There’s Nuffin Like a Puffin featuring original material from well-loved children’s books ranging from Stig of the Dump and The Very Hungry Caterpillar through to Artemis Fowl and Percy JacksonFind out more.

The Children's Book Show comes to the King's Hall, Ilkley for an event with Guo Yue and Clare Farrow about their book Little Leap Forward in collaboration with the Ilkley Literature Festival on Monday 4 October. Find out more.

As part of The Children's Book Show, Bruce Ingman will be visiting the People's Theatre, Newcastle, on Tuesday October 5, to talk about his new collaboration with Allan Ahlberg - Everybody Was a Baby Once. Find out more.

The Children's Book Show will arrive at the Arnolfini, Bristol on Thursday October 7, for a special event with Jessica Souhami about her new book Piglet's Picnic: A Story about Food and Counting. Find out more.

Scotland

Scottish Book Trust are hosting an evening reception for teachers, librarians and young people with award-winning author David Almond in Edinburgh on Monday 4 October. Find out more

Across the UK

Children aged 7-11 can enter the Old Possum's Poetry Competition by writing a poem on the theme of 'home'. The closing date is 15 October and this years' judges include poet Roger McGough. Find out more.

Scottish Book Trust will be holding a special online Authors Live event with Young Bond author Charlie Higson on Thursday 7 October. Schools can sign up on the website to watch the event live. Find out more, including how to sign up.

The Children's Book Show is an annual tour of children's authors and illustrators from the UK and abroad that runs from September-November. This year's theme is Stories Around the World and participating authors and illustrators include Children's Book Week illustrator Shirin Adl, as well as Michael Rosen, Elizabeth Laird and Valerie Bloom.
