Annual Fellowship
The Unwin Trust's UK-Australia Fellowship was originally funded for four years for two people in Australia to visit the UK and two people from the UK to visit Australia, to carry out projects of mutual benefit to the book industry of each country. It was announced in 2007 that the fund will be extended for another four years.
The Fellows and their reports
The Fellow for 2009/10 is Natalie Costa Bir, from HarperCollins Australia. She will be visiting the UK later this year to study how social blogs and online communities can help increase sales.
Amy Tipper, Product Manager, Brands & Licensing and DK Children's Books at Penguin, went to Australia in 2008/09. She investigated digital publishing and online retailing.

Faye Sutherland, an Australian bookseller, was the recipient of the fifth Fellowship. She came to the UK to research academic bookselling, the response to market change and its relevance to Australia.

The fourth Fellow, Hannah Westland, is a literary agent with Rogers, Coleridge & White in London. She spent three months in Australia, from October 2006 to January 2007, investigating the benefits to Australian and non-Australian authors of selling Australian rights separately to Australian publishers, and measuring this against the relative benefits of the traditional approach of selling British Commonwealth rights, including Australian rights, to UK publishers.

Annabel Fleay, Children's Product Manager at Pan Macmillan Australia, was awarded the 2005 Unwin Trust UK-Australia Fellowship. She analysed the shift toward a bestseller environment in the children's book industry.

The second Fellow, Rebeka Cohen, investigated trends in book and cover design at art and museum publishers in Australia.

Eligibility and contact details
The successful candidate (who will have at least three year’s experience in the book industry, either in bookselling or publishing) will have put together a proposal to carry out a project which will enhance their understanding of the Australian book trade and will provide a means to increase understanding of each market by the other.
They will also have provided a timetable and approximate budget.
It is expected that time spent in Australia will be 2-3 months and the Trust will provide funding for travel, accommodation etc up to £10,000.
