Bookgifting programmes

The value of Bookstart, Booktime and Booked Up

Booktrust’s national bookgifting programmes provide free books to children at five key ages, supporting their reading journey and inspiring a love of books for life.

The programmes are achieved through highly successful public/private partnerships. Administered by Booktrust, the programmes are supported in England by central government and benefit from the generous sponsorship of children’s publishers, authors, illustrators and booksellers.

.

The total annual value of Bookstart, Booktime and Booked Up refers to delivery of the programmes in their entirety including: the contents of the book packs; the dual language offer; additional needs packs; support materials and resources; central administration costs; warehouses and delivery services; media campaigns and research and evaluation costs.

More than 5.9 million books are gifted in England each year. The books are selected by independent panels of experts and are all high quality, absorbing and fun, inspiring enjoyment of reading and encouraging children and young people to read more.
