Orange Prize for Fiction 2012 longlist announced

The Orange Prize for Fiction, the UK's only annual book award for fiction written by a woman, has announced the 2012 longlist. Now in its seventeenth year, the Prize celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women's writing throughout the world. The announcement coincides with International Women's Day 2012. The books are:

- Emma Donoghue The Sealed Letter
- Esi Edugyan Half Blood Blues
- Anne Enright The Forgotten Waltz
- Roopa Farooki The Flying Man
- Jaimy Gordon Lord of Misrule
- Georgina Harding Painter of Silence
- Jane Harris Gillespie and I
- Francesca Kay The Translation of the Bones
- A L Kennedy The Blue Book
- Erin Morgenstern The Night Circus
- Madeline Miller The Song of Achilles
- Cynthia Ozick Foreign Bodies
- Ann Patchett State of Wonder
- Ali Smith There but for the
- Anna Stothard The Pink Hotel
