Maya Sondhi's favourite reads

The actress Maya Sondhi is very funny. She plays goody two-shoes daughter Shazia on BBC1's hit sitcom Citizen Khan and is a screenwriter in her own right. She's a big reader too. I asked her to list some of her favourite books. And here they are:
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - because it contains the single best piece of advice ever - ' You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.'
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - because I (worryingly) totally relate to her...!
The Old Man And The Sea by Ernest Hemingway - it was the first grown up book my Dad read to me out loud and still never ceases to both move and excite.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - because I almost blacked out on the bus when I was reading it - such powerful and evocative descriptions.
Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen - because the romance and wit of it got me through my teenage years. Plus it is quite simply a classic which never ever gets old.
Citizen Khan series 1 is out on DVD now
