Primrose

by Alex T Smith

Primrose is a princess who lives in a pretty pink palace. She has a pretty pink tiara, two prancing pink ponies and an adorable pug called Percy. But Primrose finds her pretty pink princess life boring, and in search of some fun, she takes up tree climbing, dressing up, gardening, baking, and even swimming in the palace fountain - much to the horror of her very proper Royal parents, the King and Queen.

They decide the time has come to call in Her Royal Highness Grandmama - surely she can show Primrose the correct way for a princess to behave? But it soon turns out that Grandmama has a very different solution to the problem than anyone expected - which gives the whole Royal Family the chance to have a lot more fun.

Alex T Smith's Primrose is a delightful alternative to the usual pastel-pink princess story. Packed full of mischievous humour, with an alliterative text that is fun to read aloud, this colourful picture book is ideal for sharing. Smith's beautiful illustrations are full of amusing details to explore: children will love spotting charismatic pug Percy on each page, and are certain to enjoy the final spreads showing the prim King and Queen climbing trees and jumping on beds. With just enough pink to ensure it will appeal to young princess fans, this story of a princess with panache is a lovely tribute to the importance of having fun.
