The Uninvited
by Liz Jensen
Hesketh Lock's personal life has just undergone some huge changes but he needs to push these aside when his job requires him to travel China to investigate a seemingly simple case of industrial sabotage. At this point he is blissfully unaware that this apparently isolated case is merely the beginning.
Liz Jensen has created a character who sees the world in a logical, almost dispassionate way and is able to notice patterns and make connections which escape the gaze of others. This means that he is the perfect person to solve the riddles that are unravelling all over the world. How will he cope when events involve him on a far more personal level than he is used to?
Liz Jensen has created a story which also serves as a warning. She poses questions of which, refreshingly, not all are answered by the story. As the book progresses Jensen gives the reader sight of an alarming but believable future. In spite of the serious nature of the book there are also moments of humour as the story twists and turns. Travelling through the story with the main character draws the reading into a tale where the unfolding events are scarily plausible.
