The People of Forever Are Not Afraid
by Shani Boianjiu
The first thing I have to say about Shani Boianji's, first book, 'The People of Forever are Not Afraid, is how beautifully written and descriptive the language used is. Being her first book released, 'The People of Forever are not Afraid' is actually based on Shani's experiences as a soldier in the IDF where she spent her time training combat soldiers in the use of weapons.
The novel follows the life of three Israeli girls, from a small town in Northern Galilee. We read about their younger lives and how parties and boys are important, and how different life is for a girl in Israeli when she comes of age compred to what we, here in the UK, are used to. We see all three girls go into service in the female infantry battalion of the IDF, we hear the tales of what they see and, the sort of games they play whilst watching computer screen for hours on end, till we finally go on to read about their lives after army service.
When reading this book I felt I was given a true insight to the life the young people of Israel lead. It was truly amazing to be able to hear about the tales on the borders and what their jobs really entail. This is definitely a read for those of you that are interested in learning about the different cultures of the world and just how different the lives they lead can be.
