The Great Race

Kanchil, the mouse deer, boasts that he is the fastest animal in the forest and challenges any animal to beat him in a race. None of the animals will take up the challenge until Pelan the snail steps forward. But how can a little snail possibly beat the clever and speedy Kanchil...?

This is a retelling of a popular Indonesian folk tale along the lines of 'The Hare and the Tortoise'. It is exquisitely illustrated in the style of traditional Gujarati textile painting using only three colours: blood red, black and white. This beautiful picture book would make a very special present.
